When you are walking down the streets of Houston, are you ever struck with questions as to what people are hiding below their baseball caps and cowboy hats? Many people may find this to be an odd or even absurd query, but for those who have experienced significant hair loss, it is something that can be an actual reality. When you have significant hair loss to the point of balding, you can feel as though you are consumed by it. You are constantly wondering what people are thinking of you, if they are really seeing you or only seeing your lack of hair. Hair loss can cause serious hits to your self-esteem, but there are treatment options, such as hair transplant surgery out there that can provide you with relief. When living in a city like Houston, you are constantly on the move and meeting new people, you do not want your life to be controlled by your hair loss, and it doesn’t have to.
What Causes Hair Loss?
When speaking about hair loss in relation to needing a hair-transplant this is more than simply seeing some strands in your shower drain or hairbrush because everyone sheds. Losing hair is a natural part of the cycle of life for hair, according to Yahoo! Voices, but when the loss of hair is at such a large extent that is when action may need to be taken. As for why certain men and women struggle with this issue and others don’t, there is no simple answer because a number of factors can play into hair loss, such as:
- Having a child
- Thyroid problems
- Blood circulation issues
- Hormonal imbalances
- Hair products (including gels, dyes, straighteners, rollers, etc.)
- Hair styling (pulling hair into tight bands)
- Smoking
- Consuming alcohol
- Stress
- Depression
- Irregular diet
Then there are those who simply inherited the problem, but this is more common in men. They say you will be able to tell what your hair is going to look like when you get older is by looking at your mother’s father.
How the Transplant Works
When you have a bald spot or receding hairline and decide that getting a hair transplant is the best option, you will have to consult with a surgeon who performs this type of procedure. The transplant will involve harvesting hair from the back of your scalp and implanting it into the spots where hair loss has occurred, according to WebMD. There are only rare exceptions where another person can donate the hair to be used in the transplant, according to the WebMD report, and that is in cases with identical twins. The transplant surgery in men with ‘male pattern baldness,’ where the sides and back of the hair remain very thick, is very successful it has been shown because experts believe the hair that remains thick in these cases is genetically made to continue to grow even when placed elsewhere on the scalp.
Every person in Houston will have different situations that led them to considering having a hair transplant, but one thing they will all share: they don’t want to be ruled by their hair loss any longer.
