Losing weight can be a struggle for some people, and so many of these individuals use diet aids to help them shed the weight. The problem is that not all diet aids are considered healthy ways to lose weight, and if you’re not careful, you could end up causing yourself serious harm, or even death.

If you want to lose weight, the following are five diet aids to stay away from.

1. Clenbuterol

Clenbuterol, also known as Clen, is one of the latest diet pill crazes that can help increase muscle mass and lose weight, but it’s not approved to be used on humans. In fact, clenbuterol is actually a steroid that is used on horses to cure them of respiratory illnesses. Many athletes are known to take this, and plenty of athletes were banned from the 2011 Pan Am games when they tested positive for it.

Clenbuterol is dangerous because it can cause severe damage to the heart muscles, and this damage can cause serious illness, injury or even death. Even though Clenbuterol is not approved for use in humans, many people can easily access it by doing a simple Google search.

2. Contrave

Contrave is a new diet drug that is made from Orexigen, which is a combination of antidepressants and smoking cessation drugs. If the fact that a diet pill is being constructed of antidepressants and smoking cessation ingredients doesn’t concern you, this may: the FDA sent Contrave back into testing last year to ensure that it didn’t raise the risk of heart attack. If it needs additional testing, it’s something to stay away from.

3. KE Diet

You may not have heard of the KE diet, but you may have heard of the feeding tube diet, and that’s exactly what this is. With this diet, a person will have a feeding tube sent down their nose, and a dietary solution will be drained down the nose directly into the stomach. Since you don’t eat food, you limit your calorie intake. KE is very dangerous. Aside from having a feeding tube inside you, you also run the risk of infection. And since you’re not consuming food, your body’s metabolism starts to break down fats incorrectly which puts major strain on your kidneys and liver.

4. Xiushentang

Xiushentang is a dietary pill from Japan, also known as the Japanese diet pill, and it is something to be concerned with. One of the major ingredients in this pill is phenolphthalein, and this has been known to raise the risk of heart attack and even cause strokes. Plus, the FDA issued a very strong warning about not using this product, so it’s clearly something to stay away from.

5. Tapeworms

One old school diet fad that is still used today requires the help of a tapeworm. People are digesting tapeworms and allowing them to live inside their stomach and intestines and eat the food that you intake, helping you to keep off gaining weight. The problem is that you cannot force a tapeworm to stay in one part of your body, and you can’t force it to come out. This means that the tapeworm can start eating away at your organs, and it also has the ability to travel to your brain through your bloodstream, which will result in death.
