Seattle Genetics

Seattle Genetics have made significant developments in using antibodies to target cancer cells effectively. They are like smart bombs which detonate only upon hitting the tumor. Seattle Genetics is also the company which created the drug Adcetris, for the treatment of lymphoma. Although this drug has received the FDA approval, it is only used as a second- line therapy. 20 clinical trials are underway for testing the drug’s effectiveness; 4 of which are for late-stage cancers.

Once the cancer cells are identified, they are hit with a payload which is highly toxic. It is 100 to 1000 times more toxic than chemotherapy. Immunogen received recognition back in February when its breast cancer drug called Kadcyl got approved by the FDA.  The approval by FDA further validates the breakthrough technology of Immunogen.

Furthermore, Immunogen is in the process of developing more drugs for lung cancer, ovarian cancer and lymphoma. Also, phase 3 trials are underway for a drug developed for the treatment of breast cancer; developed along with Pfizer.
