Being healthy and losing weight is all about counting your calories. If you are eating too much and not exercising enough, then you are going to end up gaining. Unfortunately a lot of people end up gaining because they have a hard time finding foods that are low in calories. What you might not know is that there are a considerable amount of low calorie foods that you can eat that are good for you.

1. Arugula

If you’re going to have a salad, then make it with arugula. You can also add this to sandwiches, wraps and a variety of other recipes. It’s only 4 calories per cup and it’s packed with vitamins and fiber to help keep you full.

2. Broccoli

With only 31 calories per cup, broccoli is an excellent food to eat on a regular basis. You can prepare it in a number of different ways and you can even eat it raw with a low calorie vegetable dip. It’s also packed full of vitamins and antioxidants, which means it’s great for your body.

3. Miso Soup

This soup is generally only 20 or so calories per cup and it will leave you feeling full for a long time. It’s also tasty and can be made at home, so it’s great if you want to prepare your own foods.

4. Beets

Beets are sweet, tasty and great in a variety of different dishes. These are only around 38 calories per 1/2 cup and can make an excellent snack for dieters.

5. Grapefruit

39 calories are in half of this fruit and it’s so sweet you won’t want dessert!

6. Cauliflower

You can bake this, steam it or eat it raw and it will taste great any way. It’s only around 30 calories per cup and will keep you full with all the fiber that is in it. If you want to add more flavor, then sprinkle some garlic salt on it or bake it with olive oil, salt and pepper.

7. Carrots

Only 22 calories per 1/2 cup and full of vitamins and minerals.

8. Mushrooms

Mushrooms are extremely versatile and only 15 calories per cup. They are also full of vitamins, fiber and antioxidants.

9. Spinach

Whether you put this on a sandwich, in a salad or in an omelet; it’s a great low-calorie food. It’s only 7 calories per cup and is high in vitamins and iron.

10. Onions

These add a lot of flavor to dishes, but not a lot of calories. 32 calories is all you have to spare for a half cup of this veggie!

11. Berries

Most berries are only 33 calories per 1/2 of a cup and are full of antioxidants that are great for your body.

12. Kale

It’s only 5 calories per cup and is one of the healthiest foods you can eat!

13. Tomatoes

22 calories are in one medium sized tomato and it tastes great alone or with some balsamic vinegar.

14. Celery

15 calories is in 1 cup of this and it’s very high in water, so it will help you feel full.

15. Zucchini

You can grill this, eat it raw or even make spaghetti with it. It’s only 20 calories per cup and is a great source of vitamins.
