What Makes a Healthy Breakfast?

There’s a myth that you can’t change your metabolism, but that’s not necessarily true. Certain foods, for instance, encourage your body to metabolize food into energy more quickly, which is good for your waistline and health. Studies show that people who eat a nutritious breakfast tend to weigh less than their counterparts who do not partake of a morning meal.

Nuts offer a source of protein and can help kick start your metabolism, so adding them to a smoothie low-fat yogurt and fruit is one option. If you have a sweet tooth, use honey rather than sugar to flavor your morning smoothie. Similarly, you can spice up plain oatmeal with raisins and nuts for a flavorful bowl at breakfast.

Can’t Concentrate?

Another benefit to a healthy breakfast is the ability to keep your concentration at work or school. It’s difficult to do so when your stomach is grumbling, which is why a complete breakfast is key. Junk food or a breakfast that doesn’t offer enough nutrients won’t help you think or feel your best. The reduction of hunger over the days can also stave off poor choices such as stopping at the vending machine for a quick fix.

People who eat breakfast tend to make better choices all day, which is important when you’re living an active lifestyle.
