It’s no secret that men and women are very different. So it should come as no surprise that men and women need different things from their multivitamins. Vitamin A

This vitamin can be extremely helpful in maintaining healthy eyes and good eyesight as we age. Men who suffer from vision problems, especially in their younger years, should try to get adequate amounts of Vitamin A in order to avoid further problems with their vision later in life.

Vitamin B-2

According to Discovery Fit & Health, “Riboflavin is especially important for men experiencing a period of growth or if they’re eating large amounts of protein to build muscle. There is also evidence that it may be beneficial to men who suffer from migraines or tinnitus (a hearing problem).”

Vitamin B-6

This vitamin, when used in conjunction with magnesium, can help to decrease the risk of developing kidney stones. For men who suffer from chronic kidney stones, adding this vitamin to your routine may be one way to find some relief.


Discovery Fit & Health says this about chromium, “One of the biggest health concerns facing men is the onset of Type 2 diabetes, so any supplement that can help beat back the threat of the disease has a definite place on this list. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that chromium supplements help normalize blood sugar levels, while chromium deficiency can cause glucose intolerance that leads to Type 2 diabetes.”

Osteoporosis is a major problem for women, so taking calcium regularly, especially from a young age, can help to decrease the risk of developing this issue.? As we age our bone mass starts to decline, this is another reason to take calcium daily, to help slow bone loss.

Vitamin D

Needing Vitamin D goes along with needing Calcium for women. Without proper amounts of Vitamin D, our bodies can’t properly process the calcium we are getting, which can lead to increased bone loss and even osteoporosis. As we get older our body also starts to lose its ability to make Vitamin D from sunlight, making it even more important to look for this vitamin in your multivitamin.


According to WebMD, “If you’re still menstruating, you need to be sure you’re getting an adequate amount of iron in order to prevent anemia. If you are a woman past menopause you need less iron, so unless your doctor recommends an iron supplement, you should look for a multivitamin without iron.”


Also known as Folic Acid, Folate is extremely essential for women of child-bearing age. This important nutrient plays an important role in the development of a baby’s brain and spinal cord. Low levels of folate have been linked to neural tube disorders, including spina bifida.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Acting as a natural anti-inflammatory, omega-3 fatty acids may be very important to maintaining a healthy heart. As she ages, a woman’s estrogen production declines which can leave her susceptible to developing heart disease.

It’s easy to see, just from these few examples, the the multivitamin that’s right for you, may not be right for someone of the opposite sex. A lot can depend on your diet, activity level and age, there isn’t a “one-size fits all” answer when it comes to multivitamins.
