Natural Detox – We pay plenty of attention to our homes, our work spaces and our cars, making sure that they’re kept clean and in good order. We should pay that same attention to our bodies, and taking care of them doesn’t need to mean using expensive pharmaceuticals. There are plenty of natural methods you can use to detoxify your body.

Eat More Fibre For Natural Detox

Brown rice, wholewheat bread and organically grown fresh fruit and vegetables are all sources of fibre that help your body to flush out toxins. Beets, artichokes, broccoli and even seaweed are also excellent sources of fibre.

Vitamin C

Fruits high in Vitamin C, including citrus fruits like orange and grapefruit, encourage the body to produce glutathione, a compound in the liver that drives away harmful toxins.

Dandelion Leaf

Dandelion leaves are known to help the liver, your body’s built-in cleansing unit. They help the liver produce bile, which means your body can process food faster and metabolise fats with greater ease. In this way your body gets the greatest possible benefit out of the foods you eat, and the bile helps to purify your blood.

Rosemary

As well as providing a wonderful aroma, rosemary has similar benefits to dandelion leaf, helping the liver to produce bile. You can cook with rosemary, or try steeping some fresh sprigs in hot water for 15 minutes to make a delicious tea.

Natural Detox Using Chicory

High in proteins, chicory is known as a liver detoxifier. It’s also thought to support kidney function. Wild chicory roots make an excellent hot, heady drink when steeped in boiling water.

H20

Good old water! A daily intake of about eight cups of water helps keep your body functioning properly. It needn’t be plain tap water either. You can drink your water in teas, juices, smoothies or other beverages, although of course it’s best to avoid large amounts of sugary fizzy drinks.

Buchu

The indigenous South African Buchu herb is a natural diuretic and detox agent that also helps flush your body of excess water. Drinking herbal buchu water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach can be a great way to kickstart a detox programme.

Physical Exercise

You don’t need to put yourself through strenuous back-breaking routines to feel the detoxifying benefits of exercise. Yoga, stretching, walking and skipping rope are all ways of getting the blood flowing and will help keep your body in tip-top shape. You can also investigate various more specialized types of exercise. For example, Qigong is a martial art that many claim has cleansing and detoxifying qualities.

Milk Thistle For Natural Detox

Like dandelion and rosemary, milk thistle protects the liver and increases bile flow. It will also help a damaged liver regenerate new tissue.

Turmeric

A spice derived from the Circuma longa plant in the ginger family, turmeric has been used in India for thousands of years as a part of Ayurvedic medicine. The Ayurvedic diet is excellent for detoxing the body, but if the meal restrictions that go along with the Ayurvedic lifestyle aren’t for you, turmeric alone will help.

It is important to remember that when detoxing the body using natural detox, you can go overboard. There may be various “quick-fix” detox processes and exercise regimes out there, but they may leave you worse off than when you started. The best routes to good health are always gradual and consistent.
