Some people are not born with body parts and organs that function perfectly. There are also others who have lost or impaired a specific organ or part of an organ because of an accident. Centuries ago, these people might have been picked on because of their imperfection? but now, thanks to technology, there are already several forms of implants for humans.
What Are Implants??
To better understand implants, we must first get in depth with the business of body implantation. Implantation is a means of inserting devices inside the human body. The most common implant is the pacemaker which dates back to 1957. Implantation has seen a massive growth in the last twenty years by the increasing sophistication of implant techniques and the reduction of body rejection. Most implants are for uses in the brain, such as observation and control of epileptic seizures as well as neurological pacemakers to battle austere cases of depression.
Here Are Some Types Of Implants Used To Humans:
Neural (Brain) Implants
One of the primary purposes of pacemakers for the brain is for alleviation of severe pain or diseases such as Parkinsons. Today, more and more scientific research in this area are proving to developing new techniques for monitoring and controlling various aspects of brain function, such as the insertion of computer chips.
Sensory Implants
These types of implant aim to replace or repair the body senses by implanting devices which are focused on the specific sense such as seeing or hearing.
Organ Stimulation Implants
When an implant is placed in the organ to help restore or maintain it, it is called an organ stimulator. The most common of this kind is the pacemaker which help rejuvenate the heartbeats.
Spinal Implants
Spinal implants are for replacement segments for the spine, bone and cartilage. These implants are normally part of clinical procedures. Electronic devices are also used to be able to regulate muscular and the nerve signals which often cause back pain.
Dental Implants
These include the caps, plugs, crowns, posts and other dental implants. These are very common to people nowadays. Meanwhile, the more modernized dental technology also uses implants to replace the teeth and jaw bones using artificial ersatzes.
Subcutaneous Implants
These implants, on the other hand, places devices just under the skin under the hypodermic layer. It is commonly the preferred method for many kinds of monitoring and body support devices. Another form of these implants include those that are used for personal identification devices among others.
Cosmetic Implants
Often merged with plastic surgery, this area of implantation includes breast augmentation and silicon implants for the nose, fat implants for the hands and cheekbones among others.
Convenience Implants
These implantation process makes used of implants for the body and health monitoring, communication, computer access and sensory enhancement. It is, however, limited only by the inventiveness and conceit of the human species.
Repair Implants
The oldest and most prevalent form of implant, it involves fixing or supporting bones and other structures in the body. Some examples include stents, rods, braces, pins, heart valves, and knee replacements.
Implantation has gone through a lot of scientific and moral debates in the past. However, if it is indeed required by the physician or if it can make a person feel better about himself, then there shouldn’t be any arguments anymore.
