Botox is typically associated with a cosmetic procedure for people who want to reduce or eliminate forehead wrinkles and brow lines. Although it is a popular and effective treatment for problems associated with aging, it is also available in a version that is used for a number of medical reasons.

Chronic Migraines
Migraines can be extremely painful as well as debilitating for those who suffer with them on a regular basis. Migraines are more severe than an average headache and are often accompanied by nausea, light sensitivity, vision problems and they can often last for as long as two weeks. Many people who suffer with migraines are prescribed a Botox treatment to relieve the extreme pain associated with a migraine by blocking the sensory nerves that are responsible for sending pain signals to the brain. Botox treatments have been effectively used to treat urinary incontinence resulting from a number of medical conditions. Urinary incontinence is a common condition for many people who have spinal injuries, age and bladder problems. When the injections are used for urinary incontinence it helps to tighten the bladder muscles, which prevents the muscle from relaxing quickly and unexpectedly.

Hyperhydrosis is a condition that causes excessive sweating of the underarms, feet and hands. Hyperhydrosis occurs when the sweat glands are continually working, the muscles do not relax. Botox injections are effective in relaxing the muscles of the sweat glands, which prevents excessive sweating, without interfering with a normal amount of sweating.

Arthritis causes stiffness and pain that often interferes with daily activities. Botox treatments have recently been used in patients who suffer with arthritis to relieve the stiffness and pain. The injections help to block the pain, which in turn is beneficial in improving the function of joints and muscles.

Muscle Stiffness

Stiff muscle after a major surgery, accident is painful. It is worse if the nerves are damaged. Botox is not the first line of treatment for treating muscle stiffness but is used for a quick and short-term relief from the pain.

It is important to note that when Botox is used to treat a medical condition, such as migraines, it is a different form of Botox than what is used for a cosmetic procedure. However, a dermatologist is typically experienced with providing Botox treatments for medical conditions as well as cosmetic procedures. The injections have been shown to be highly effective when used for treating a wide range of condition’s that are related to the nerves and muscles.
