If you want a quick fix, this is not the article for you. However, if you want a lifestyle change to feel and look your best, I have some great information to help you make that transition. Just know that slow and steady wins the race.

So, read on to learn what you can do to make changes to best insure a new and healthier life.

#1 Kick the Bad Habits to the Curb

Habits are hard to break especially bad ones, or so it seems. Unfortunately, difficult or not, without ending our unhealthy habits such as smoking, drugs, or excessive eating, our trip to health is pretty much stalled.

However, the challenge or cravings are often short term. Once you stop the habit, the cravings start to diminish, typically after a couple weeks. I know 14 days is a long time when you want something badly, but really it’s JUST 14 days! After that, your body should be adjusting and not giving you the same grief as it was in the first few days. If you trip up, don’t beat yourself up just get right back on track.

#2 Get Regular Physicals

Getting a regular physical is no guarantee to prevention. But, it’s far better than having no knowledge of impending problems at all. Once a year should be sufficient, unless you have health concerns that might require more attention. Discuss it with your doctor on how often you should go in, as well as what you should be doing between visits.

Your doctor will also let you know when age appropriate testing should begin for certain tests.

#3 Eat Healthy and Wise

I’m sure you have heard it a hundred times before, but it’s worth repeating. Eat as healthy as you can, with fresh foods when possible. Pad your diet with additional fruits and veggies that are not only healthy, but will fill you up faster and help prevent overeating.

Switch to healthier proteins such as beans, legumes, white meats, and seafood. It’s fine to splurge on some red meat occasionally, just don’t make it too often. Also, try to avoid sugars filled with sugars and fats even artificial.

#4 Move it

I admit it. Exercise seems to be the bane of my existence, to be honest. It is something that I literally have to work on working into my daily schedule. And, I don’t really understand that, because I feel SO good after I do exercise. So, I decided a variety is the key to keep my motivation up. Take a look at some options for healthy exercise that doesn’t seem like a workout:

  • Walk walk the dog, take the stairs more often, or walk to the store
  • Dance various types of Samba dance music helps me keep the house clean and burn calories
  • Tag play tag with the kids
  • Sports join a softball league

The advantage to the above movement? is that is really does provide you with some exercise, all while enjoying every step of it. Once you get in decent shape, step it up, literally. But, these are great fillers to keep you active, now and later.

#5 Stay Hydrated

I know you have heard this before as well, but our bodies need water and lots of it to function properly. To get enough water to make a difference, a person should be drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day. Less than that can lead to dehydration, which can cause a body a lot of harm. Dehydration not only negatively impacts our skin, but our tissue, digestive system, and muscles as well.

If you are not feeling good, you are less likely to eat right or exercise. And, if you are not eating properly and exercising, you are likely to be deficient in most things, including water. It’s a nasty catch 22, actually. So, make sure to keep up on a healthy balance!

#6 Sleep Tight

A consistent good night’s sleep not only helps to revive us physically, but mentally as well. Having good sleep habits will encourage and improve concentration, motor skills, metabolism, the immune system, stress, and even our cardiovascular health. Without proper sleep, our body stands little chance of maintaining a healthy state.

A person should average about 8 hours of sleep a night. If you are not getting that now, give it a try to see how much your physical and mental state improves. If sleep does not come easy for you, look into how various techniques such as a sound machine or the scent of lavender can help.

#7 Reduce Your Stress Level

Easier said than done, I know. But, excessive stress can be extremely detrimental to your health. There are many helpful techniques that are available to ease stress levels, such as meditation, exercise, and a relaxing and enjoyable hobby. And, make sure to take vacations when you can even if it’s a staycation, where you stay at home and relax.

In Closing

As you can see, there are many steps you can easily take to lead a healthier lifestyle. The important thing to remember is to be consistent and not give up if you slip? once in a while!
